Department Overview

Boulder Rural Fire Department is located to the north of the City of Boulder in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado. We protect a variety of areas, including light industrial, suburban, agricultural fields, and mountain forests. SEE MAP HERE.

Like a majority of the fire departments in the United States, Boulder Rural provides emergency response services to our community with the help of thousands of hours of donated time. We are a combination volunteer and paid department: we have about 25 volunteers, 7 part-time firefighters, 8 full-time line firefighters, and 2 full-time Chiefs. Our highly trained "unpaid professionals" carry pagers and leave their work and their families when someone is in need. Our equipment and training are equal to full-time, paid departments. With the addition of our nationally registered Paramedics we are now able to provide Advanced Life Support services. Because of our reputation for excellence, we are fortunate that we can be highly selective in our semiannual hiring process.

Boulder Rural Fire Department operates two fire stations and 8 pieces of apparatus. Our Station 1 facility, which includes our administrative offices, is located at Jay Road and 51st Street. Station 2 is located at Fairways and Neva Rd.

Our goal is to provide superior customer service in fire suppression, prevention, and emergency medical response. A short brochure is available for printing for your convenience.
