Boulder Rural Fire Department is located to the north of the City of Boulder in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado. We protect a variety of areas, including light industrial, suburban, agricultural fields, and mountain forests. SEE MAP HERE.
Like a majority of the fire departments in the United States, Boulder Rural provides emergency response services to our community with the help of thousands of hours of donated time. We are a combination volunteer and paid department: we have about 25 volunteers, 7 part-time firefighters, 8 full-time line firefighters, and 2 full-time Chiefs. Our highly trained "unpaid professionals" leave their work and their families when someone is in need. Our equipment and training are equal to 100% paid departments. With the addition of our nationally registered Paramedics we are now able to provide Advanced Life Support services. Because of our reputation for excellence, we are fortunate that we can be highly selective in our semiannual hiring process.

Boulder Rural Fire Department operates two fire stations and 8 pieces of apparatus. Our Station 1 facility, which includes our administrative offices, is located at Jay Road and Diagonal Hwy. Station 2 is located at Fairways and Neva Rd.
Our goal is to provide superior customer service in fire suppression, prevention, and emergency medical response. A short brochure is available for printing for your convenience.

Message from the Chief

chief As we approach the completion of our celebration of our 50th Anniversary, I want to extend our thanks and appreciation to all of you for your support and friendship over the past many years. We have worked very hard to earn your faith and trust by providing you with the best possible service. For some of you, that has been coming to your rescue when your life and/or property is being threatened. To others it is to render aid and support when you are having a difficult time. And to still others it is with a station tour, child car seat installation or visiting your child’s birthday party. We have tried very hard to accept your challenges to meet your every need.

We are underway in planning for our next 50 years of service! Next month, we will receive the results of a study that will indicate to us how we can be more efficient, effective, and creative in our efforts to improve the service we provide. This may be done through sharing resources and/or merging our programs, apparatus, and personnel with other departments in Boulder County. We have recently been very successful in this area with the creation of a Joint Response Area with Mt. View Fire Protection District. This project allowed our two departments to combine our joint resources resulting in a Paramedic Engine and an ALS Ambulance responding on 100% of all alarms in designated areas. This joint venture brings to your door an initial response team of five plus people including two Paramedics. That is a “wow’ in the fire service regardless of the size/type of Fire Department.

We also are underway in planning a new fire station and headquarters facility, from which we expect to operate out of through our 100th Anniversary and beyond. This is a very significant undertaking and expense for our Department and we greatly appreciate your show of confidence and support by providing funding for this project.

Please feel free to call us with any questions and let us know how we can be of continuing service to you. We are here to serve you and want you to always feel welcome at your Fire Department.
